Francisco Gallardo del Puerto is Associate Professor at the University of Cantabria. He was a teacher at the University of the Basque Country (2001-2011), where he received his PhD in 2004 with a thesis on the acquisition of L3 English pronunciation. He has been a visiting scholar at the University of Zagreb (Croatia) and at the University of Iowa (USA).

His current teaching involves undergraduate courses in English Language and Linguistics as well as postgraduate courses in the Master's programs Language Communication and Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Zagreb (Croatia), Language Acquisition in Multilingual Settings at the University of the Basque Country (Spain), and Second Language Learning and Teaching at the University of Cantabria (Spain).


He is currenlty the Academic Director of Language Policy at the University of Cantabria (Spain), where he previously was the Coordinator for International Relations, Student Affairs and Extension Courses and the Director of the Master's Second Language Learning and Teaching at the Faculty of Education. He has also been the Coordinator of the Panel Language Teaching and Acquisition of AEDEAN -Spanish Association for English and American Studies (2013-2017).

  • the L2/L3 acquisition of English phonology and lexis,
  • content and language integrated learning (CLIL),
  • the age factor in L2/L3 acquisition
