Averil Ester Bolster

Averil was a PhD student in the Language Acquisition in Multilingual Settings (LAMS) programme at the University of the Basque Country and was supervised by Professor María del Pilar García Mayo. She is interested in teachers' attitudes to collaborative learning (CL).

Averil comes from Ireland and gained her PhD from the Language Acquisition in Multilingual Settings (LAMS) programme at the University of the Basque Country in July 2025. She was supervised by Professor María del Pilar García Mayo and her thesis title is, “A qualitative Grounded Theory study of EAP practitioners and collaborative learning: identity and beliefs​”. Averil holds a BSc and post-graduate diplomas from University College Cork (UCC) in Ireland, the International Diploma in Language Teaching Management (IDLTM) and an MA in ELT and Materials Development from Leeds Beckett University in the UK. She has been a teacher in the ELT field since 1995 and worked in a variety of contexts (general English, ESP, management, EAP and curriculum development) in Portugal, Turkey, Lithuania, The UAE, China, Vietnam, Macau and Finland. She is a permanent university teacher of English at the University of Turku in Finland.

Research Interests
