Roumyana Slabakova
Roumyana Slabakova is Professor of Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition at the University of Iowa. She investigates the acquisition of meaning in its relation to linguistic structure, focusing on temporal, aspectual and nominal meanings, as well as pragmatic implicatures. She is the author of Aspect in the Second Language (John Benjamins, 2001) and Meaning in the Second Language (Mouton de Gruyter, 2008). She is a founding editor of the journal Linguistic Approaches to Bilingualism.
Research Interests
Second language acquisition of meaning and inflectional morphology; theoretical models of second language acquisition; pedagogical applications of generative SLA research.
